Students learn at all different levels and paces, but teachers don’t have the time to teach each student individually. This makes it very hard to ensure that students who are less advanced, and those who are further advanced than the rest of the class, still get the help and engagement that they need. Teaching assistants can be expensive, but if those students don’t get additional help and more tailored lessons to their ability, they could end up getting left behind or not being able to realise their full potential.

Tute is a collaborative teaching platform in which engaging live-lessons are delivered by experienced Tute teachers via a Learning Cloud. For example, if you have a group of students who are struggling to keep up with the rest of the class in maths, you can set them up with lessons on Tute so they are able to spend more time on the topics they struggle with. This allows them to learn at their own pace and get the additional help they need, whilst the rest of the class is free to move on to more advanced lessons.

As of 2014, the national curriculum was changed to include the new Computing subject to replace the existing ICT one. Technology is ever changing and new technologies are constantly being developed every day. The new Computing subject aims to help students understand how computers and computer systems work, and how they are designed and programmed. This will allow students to solve problems, and understand and design real-world systems, preparing them for the future world of work. The problem with the new addition to the curriculum is that many primary school teachers are unsure of how to teach Computing to their students; a Government report into digital strategy found that just 35% of computer science teachers had a relevant qualification¹.

Barefoot Computing is a national programme in which we work together with Computing At School (CAS) to support teachers in delivering the computing curriculum. The Barefoot programme supports primary educators with the confidence, knowledge, skills and resources to teach computer science.
